Umzug

Hi, I'm still alive. I've been very busy these last two weeks with moving this blog to my own website. So from today on you will find all my new and also all my blogging at http://herrlichkeiten.net.

To welcome you in the new place in style, I have been working on a little present: my new "Walking On..." sock pattern will be available as a free download there for the first month. So what are you waiting for?! ;)

Socken. Also nichts wie rübergestiefelt zur neuen Adresse. :)

Still alive

...but busy as hell. The past week flew by filled with work so there isn't any progress to show you. Ok, perhaps I finished something small. And colourful. And knitted. But more on this soon.

Obwohl, was Kleines habe ich fertig bekommen. Es ist bunt und gestrickt. Aber mehr wird erstmal nicht verraten.

Frühlingsgefühle

Finally I find the time to da a post on my wardrobe plans for spring. After Colette Patterns sparked the fire on spring palettes this is much on my mind and as it seems on many other bloggers minds, too.

My colours this spring are navy, red and off-white.

The items are (in order of need): underwear, jeans, jacket/blazer, matching skirt, top. This is a very ambitioned plan, because as you know me perhaps a little by now, I'm not one for the big output. At least I finished alredy a knit top that fits in there really well. And there are 4 panties waiting to get the elastic attached and then they'd be finished, too. The fabric for the rest is sitting around prewashed since autumn, so I hope I will be a good girl and have a couple of new pieces to add to my travel luggage in late may...

while still almost finished/hier noch fast fertig

My new top is almost finished. The knitting is done the only things missing to show it off are the finishing details and proper pictures. Unfortunately spring isn't cooperating and in a rather nasty mood. Today it's stormy and raining. Bah. The new dress is also nearing its completion. More on that tomorrow.

neckline detail/Ausschnitt

Sonnenschein

Outside the sun is shining and despite the freezing temperatures I'm very motivated to knit my spring top. Although I had to frog most of it last week-end because I had made a stupid mistake at the beginning. I'm learning the hard way again. But each time ripping out is hurting a bit less. ;) Today I'm almost as far as I have been last friday - and having better photo conditions. So here come a few of my progress so far:

I love this wrong side detail./Ist von links auch wunderschön.

Flip Top Update

I just wanted to add here, too, that I added a M size for female hands to the Slip Stitch Flip Tops pattern. Anyone teased?

The yarn shop just around the corner is open again (yay!) and so I paid a visit last week. After being even allowed to dig into boxes of yarn (the cotton hadn't been bought out properly then) I went away with some beautiful deep red cotton yarn and matching off-white skeins. I plan to make a top for spring. I am already putting together my (dream)wardrobe for spring now. But I guess this may deserve an extra-post soon.

swatching/Maschenprobe

I also bought one ball of olive green merino woll by lang which I have already knit up. It's a cute little hat now. "Baby Who" by Sheryl Reed (the pattern can also be found on her blog). I did make it last november for the new.born daughter of a friend. Now she has grown out of it and requested a new one. I casted on 8 stitches more this time. This did work out perfectly with the head circumferrence as well as with the sequence of the crown decreases. Now the hat just has to get to the little receipient...

Slip Stitch Flip Tops

The pattern for the Slip Stitch Flip Tops is finally finished and published on ravelry. Yesterday I made a diagramm to clearify the attachment of the flip tops and after I included it, the pattern was as good as it could get. It's taken me around two months from idea and sketch to finished pattern... so here come the specifications:

Size: for male hands of a circumference of ca. 25cm/10" and a length of 18.5cm/7.3".

Yarn: Zitron Lifestyle (155m/50g, 100% Merino) 1 ball in each colour.

Needles: 3mm & 3.5mm dpns, 3mm crochet hook, darning needle.

Level: Intermediate.

Language: English.

Price: 3.00€.

These mittens go great with the Slip-Stitch-Scarf. The pattern immitates a checkered pattern using slipped stitches, which makes them really soft and warm. With these Flip-Tops you easily grab your keys or look for change without having to take off the mitts.

I finally did a German translation for the Elinor Shawlette. And it's been a good thing for the English version, too: I found some dull errors I made when adding the written instructions. I hope nobody has already run into any problems because of them. I'm really sorry. So in addition to the German translation I updated the English version today as well. The lesson I learned today: Never alter a pattern "just a bit".

Zopfmuster

I finished knitting my hat! It's really cosy and fits quite nicely like a cap but still has to be blocked. I dragged my flatmate out on our balcony to take some pictures anyway. I just couldn't wait to show you. ;) Even the starting snow didn't stop me, hehe. So here we go:

Ich wollte endlich mal wieder was zeigen.

The sad news is: My local yarn shop is still on holiday until next week and I'm running out of projects/yarn. I still have some odd balls sitting around but not the yarn I want to start a top I want to wear in spring. And not enough for any bigger projects anyway. I already had a look at the yarn section in the next big department store but they only have yarn by one company and cheap sale yarns. Nothing tempted me there. This may mean more sewing during the next days. :) Which really is good news, too.

The hat made some progress last week even though I had to rip out a couple of rounds because I miscalculated it a bit. And it's about time, too, because winter made its comeback right at my front door.

I also finally have a new serious sewing project: a new dress. I just got it in my had that I needed a new colourful dress to up my spirits. So I took out some of the fabric that got handed down to me by a neighbor of my parents. It's a very vivid blueish green polyester crepe. And it's going to be the 106 dress for burda 9/2008, which has a very retro vibe. I'm not too sure if it's going to suit me so I'm going to make a muslin first. If the A-line skirt is not the thing I can still remove it for a dirndl. Last night I made the first step by copying the pattern. Next on the list are a FBA and the muslin.

Tutorial - Short Rows

For all who feel a bit intimidated by the short rows used in the Elinor Shawlette I decided to do a tutorial on working these.

wrap & turn
wickeln & wenden

We start right after you knit the number of stitches mentioned in the pattern.

Bring the yarn to the front of your work and slip the next stitch from the left to the right needle purlwise.

Bring the yarn back again and slip the slipped stitch back to the left needle.

The stitch is now wrapped. Turn your work.

Holding your yarn tight, purl the next stitches like mentioned in the pattern.

picking up the double wraps
doppelt umwickelte Maschen aufnehmen

Knit to the next double wrap.
Bis zur nächsten doppelt umwickelten Masche stricken.

Insert the right needle into the wraps and stitch upwards from the front of the work (aka pick up knitwise) and transfer all three yarn loops back to the left needle.

Knit the two wraps and stitch through the back loop (purlwise) as one stitch.

Last week was rather unproductive. I did start a new hat because I finally needed a bit more variation on my head. But then weather changed and now there i no snow anymore but 10°C and birds singing. Almost like spring. This definitely did dampen my enthusiasm to knit a thick winter hat.

At least it did motivate me to start assembling the parts of my panties. I managed to sew four of the nine that are lying around togehter. That's only five to go and all the elastics. :) This is kind of a long term wip, as I did cut them more than two months ago. But at least it's something.

Short, but for more than one week:). This means you finally get a picture of the finished Fair Isle Jumper. (I did actually finish it still in 2010.) I love it and am wearing it often - in fact even now. And this is about all I have, because last week I spent mostly sleeping or in front of my computer instead of starting a new project.

Elinor

I finally have made the shawlette available at ravelry. Calling it just that didn't seem anymore as a good idea so I went hunting for a name and came up with Elinor, the heroine of Jane Austen's "Sense and Sensibility". It may have something to do with me listening to this very book at that time, but is a good match anyway for an interesting knit and a geometric lace. ;)

Elinor the shawlette is knit sideways which means you can enjoy stockinette and lace knitting all in one (and almost every) row. And it's a fast knit. The widest part to knit is the middle section which is fun in itself because of a lot of short rows. The lace part is written as a chart, which is the way I work and think. But if there is a number of people interested in a written version I'm going to include an additional side of it, too.

Since my mum also knits and crochets I've got some beautiful crafted things for christmas, too.
Tatatataaaa:
schicke, warme Pulswärmer im Pfauenschweifmuster
beautiful and warm wristwarmers in feather and fan stitch

a couple of cute butterflies waiting to be added to my new black skirt

Tasche/ bag :D

I had those butterflies on my wishlist, but the bag came as a huge surprise. I had favourited a similar one last summer on ravelry and my mum (who can also be found on ravelry) decided on making me one for christmas. And she did it - without a pattern just by the picture because she doesn't speak any English. Isn't she amazing?!

Willkommen 2011

Beide Geschenke kamen sehr gut an.

I'm back again. The holidays went by quickly and now it's back to normal. I also got a cold, but that's almost over by now. And now on to the more interesting presents - the ones I couldn't tell you about when I made them. Some pants for my mum and a pair of flip-top mittens for my dad. I made the pants from the same pattern as mine last september, which my mum liked very much. I just added a pocket with a little monogram. It fits very well since we have a very similar body - the jersey takes care of the rest. :)

The mittens proved to be a bit more difficult because I invented the pattern while knitting. And this included starting from scratch three times. Getting the right width has been main issue, because my hands are much slimmer than my dad's. But I found some friends that helped me out there (cutting off any hands has not been required) and in the end there would have been some other happy recipients...I'm so proud of these mittens and will be writing down the pattern and sharing it some time soon. (You can see my pinky finger being swalloed by the glove part.)

And the pattern goes to...

I just drew the winners with a little help of a random number generator. First, thank you to all who visited and especially to those who left a comment. I enjoyed this very much. For all who haven't been lucky and, of course, also for those who were, there will be another giveaway very soon and this time it's something to make yourself happy with.

Tatatataaaaaaaaa: The pattern pdf for the babysocks will go out by e-mail to Nupur, Jenny and Knittingdancer. Have a good time knitting them up. And don't hesitate to ask me if there are any questions. :)
