Short, but for more than one week:). This means you finally get a picture of the finished Fair Isle Jumper. (I did actually finish it still in 2010.) I love it and am wearing it often - in fact even now. And this is about all I have, because last week I spent mostly sleeping or in front of my computer instead of starting a new project.

Even though I have been knitting a lot last week and I have even sewn a whole garment, all I can give you an update on is the Fair Isle Jumper. All of the points are finally finished and some of the many yarn ends are also woven in already. I just realised, while taking the picture, that it's eight instead of seven points like I thought. Strange, but I'm not letting this fact confuse me at all, I guess it's just my usual concentration. Now the next thing I'll have to do is sewing it up. I'm dearly hoping to finish this well before christmas. But because presents are having the higher priority right now, I'm not sure when I'm able to continue the jumper... :) And just because tomorrow is Nikolaus there will be a special post.

Die süße kleine Babymütze "Give a Hoot". Was gibt es besseres!? Details wie immer auf ravelry. :) Ich wünsche Euch eine schöne Woche.

My Fair Isle Jumper now has a yoke and three of it's seven points. It has been so refreshing to knit the more interesting part at last. So for next week I just have four points to knit and to sew everything up. I used a provisional cast on for the yoke so I can decide upon it's length at the end to use up all the yarn and perhaps even have a turtle neck.

I also took a small break last week to knit up a present. The small and cute baby hat "Give a Hoot". It's been such a fast knit, the mum loves it and it fits little baby's hat. Is there anything more to wish!? Details can be found on ravelry. :) Have a lovely week.

Longsleeves

Yesterday I finally found some time to check if my sleeve calculations for a long sleeve on the Fair Isle Jumper were right. So I basted one side together and set the sleeve in. I tryed it on and it really works! :)

This is what I did: CO 47 sts and working the rib for 9cm on 2.5mm needles, changing to 3mm needles continuing in stockinette, increasing 1 st on each side of row on 3rd and every following 7th row until 95 sts. From there on I followed the pattern. Which really confused me with it's stitch count. This time the instructions were right, but someone miscalculated the stitch count for the sleeve cap. After 95 - 77 - 63 it should read 35 - 19 instead of 49 - 33.

If you like to follow my notes, please keep in mind that I do have really small wrists. Thanks to my kitchen scale I also found out, that I need almost 100g (aka 2 balls) of yarn for one sleeve. So I have to buy some more yarn today ;).

This last week won't go down in history as one of my most productive ones but at least I have finished the back of my Fair Isle Yoke jumper. I had to add a couple of rows because even though I got rows stitchwise I did not reach the height I should have according to the pattern. I had to add another bunch of rows because I'm a good bit taller than the average woman. We'll see how this will work out... Anyhow I casted on for the front today. This jumper is coming on surprisingly fast - and this on 3mm needles!

Nr. 100

Maschenprobe/swatch

Also hier ein ganz normaler "Verspäteter Wochenrückblick-Post".

This is already post nr. 100. This quite surprised me und somehow triggered the feeling that I had to make it something special...but as this kind of blocked me I decided that this is nonsense.

im Zug/on the train

So here comes a very normal post about last weeks crafting. On the first of October I made the cast on for my next project. It's the Fair Isle Jumper from "A Stitch in Time". And it's coming along quite fast. Last weekend I finished a ball each day which resulted in 20cm each! This is partly caused by a nice train ride. There are a few things as nice as a slow train ride spend looking out the window, listening to Cast On and knitting.

This is how far I still am as painting the kitchen is occupying my spare time at the moment... By the way the yarn I'm using is Lifestyle from Zitron a fingering weight merino which I knit on 3mm needles to get gauge. The main colour is a dark plum, the contrast colour will be a heathered grey. But the fair isle part will be knit last...

almost perfect

Forth Finger: Pick up and knit 3 sts from base of 3rd finger, K the remaining sts from back of the hand (7?), turn and P 17.

I finished the gloves! Aren't they beautiful!? Just in time for the weather getting colder and colder. They defintely were worth the effort. Even both evenings I spent sewing them up! And finally the weather was fine enough to make some decent pictures of them.

Actually the pattern wasn't that complicated. After I charted the lace panel and put a stitch marker between the lace panel and the plain stockinette, knitting really was a breeze. These two things are something I'd heartily recommend to any other knitter having a try with this pattern. Especially the second glove would have set my mind boggling without. ;) But I seem to desperately need a chart to get some orientation into what I'm knitting.

The only thing I'd really change would be the way the forth finger is knit. Knit according to the instructions I ended up with a little pleat at the base of the forth finger due to the end of the side seam there. This wouldn't happen if the seam of the forth finger wasn't between the third and forth finger but an extension of the side seam. In this case the pattern would read like this:
Forth Finger: Pick up and knit 3 sts from base of 3rd finger, K the remaining sts from back of the hand (7?), turn and P 17.
It's not a big deal. I certainly didn't redid the forth finger of my gloves, but this simple change would make these gloves even more perfect.

Last week I mainly took care of my new gloves and so have  been knitting a lot. I really finished the knitting part on saturday and am still occupied by sewing all those seams together. Until now only both palm seams are still waiting to be sewn.
I have to admit that while it's constantly raining only a flash results in sharp images and the wrong colours

Stangely enough hand sewing is where I am heading also with my other project. The new lining for my old coat. I have mashine sewn last week everything and also have attached the lining by mashine as far as I could manage. So now all that is left to do is hand sewing the hem and the sleeve hems. Yeah... I'm really not at all enjoying this process. But at least I did chose a lining colour that rewards for almost everything. I do love strawberry red!

from above

It's just like summer. The last two days were a treat with sunshine, more than 20°C and relaxing afternoons on my balcony... It's almost seven and I'm still sitting outside and listen to ben folds" from above" via you tube (the wlan is perfect here) and from time to time a small cloud of shisha-smell is coming up from the street. Paradise. In the heigth of summer you can't stand the heat on this balcony heading southwest, though.

The wonderful weather got me motivated so much that I worked extra hard to have free afternoons. Resulting in: reading a book, knitting the second glove up to the fingers and grafting all seams on the first glove except for the first finger and the palm.

And I got around to testing my newest toy: a 60x90 cm Olfa cutting mat. I just love my small 45x60cm, but it's just to small for a lot of projects. And pushing it around under the fabric really isn't a solution. But I still needed a discount att my local department store to finally buy one. And I couldn't be any happier. Together wit my small mat I have a surface big enough to even cut trouser legs! But first I introduced it today to the new lining for my old wintercoat. So fast, so easy, so accurate. :) And this from my who enjoys cutting the least of all. But more of this project later.
