Lining for Jacket (pattern modified of same issue, aka my coat)

Ich war gestern endlich Stoff für meine geplante Jacke kaufen. 4 Meter sind es geworden, das ist gleich genug für einen Rock dazu plus nen halben Meter, der sich sonst so allein im großen Stoffladen gefürchtet hätte...

Yesterday I finally bought fabric for my planned and much needed jacket. It's 4 metres, enough for the jacket, a skirt and then there is this 0,5m that would have been afraid alone in the big shop...

Eigentlich wollte ich ja etwas ganz einfaches: einen dunkelblauen Baumwollgabardine oder Twill. Denkste! Dunkelblau heisst momentan wohl fast schwarz. Und davon habe ich genug Klamotten. Das nächsthellere war tatsächlich schon royal. Wer hat sich das nur ausgedacht!? Nach einigem hin- und hertigern zwischen den Regalen, wurde ich dann bei den Anzugstoffen fündig: ein Schurwoll/Polyestergemisch. Aber die Farbe stimmt! Das Futter ist ein Baumwollbatist mit kleinen roten Punkten!

Originally I just wanted something so simple: dark blue cotton garbadine or twill. Nice thought! Dark blue means almost black at the moment. And I own enough black things. The blue, that was the next lighter was vibrantly royal. Nothing in between - who decides such things!? After a lot of looking around and around again, I found something in the suit department: wool/polyester twill. The colour is perfect! The lining will be a cotton batiste with tiny red dots!

Der Preis für Futter und Stoff lag dann leider ein klein wenig über der Schmerzgrenze, aber letztendlich sind 50€ nicht wirklich teuer für Jacke und Rock. (Und wahrscheinlich noch Tuch und kurze Hose.) Urlaubsgarderobe, ich komme! Wenn ich das zeitlich bis Mitte Juni schaffe.

The total cost was a bit higher than intended. But 50€ are not really expensinve for a jacket and matching skirt. (And probably a scarf and shorts.) Holiday wardrobe I'm coming! If I find some time till mid June.

I'm dreaming of dresses

Dass ich im Nähen für mich selbst nicht so richtig voran komme, heisst nicht dass ich nicht noch mehr auf meine (imaginäre) Liste setzen kann. Bei dem Mistwetter hier ist es wahrscheinlich völlig normal von Sommerkleidchen zu träumen. Diese Woche regnet es immer wieder und wir schrammen tagsüber gerade mal leicht am zweistelligen Bereich. Nur Mittwoch war ein Lichtblick.

That I don't make any progress with any of my selfish sewing projects doesn't mean I can't put even more to my (virtual) queue. With all this bad weahter here dreaming of dresses is probably quite normal. This week it's raining and we just reach two digits on the thermometer. Only on wednesday there was a ray of light.

Zu den Kleidern: Nummer eins steht schon länger auf der Liste. Ich möchte ein schwarzes Kleid für die Arbeit im Sommer (schwarz ist Dresscode). Der Stoff (Leinen-Viskosemix) liegt schon seit bald 3 Jahren bei mir rum und es ist schon eine Bluse draus entstanden. Nur fehlte mir bisher der richtige Schnitt fürs Kleid. Den habe ich jetzt in der aktuellen burdastyle gefunden: Nr. 110. Leider ein Schnitt für kurze Größen und ich bin stolze 1,77m, aber mit der Änderung werd ich auch noch fertig. Sonst ist es nämlich von den Biesen bis zum Tellerrock genial!

The dresses: Number one has been on my list for a while now. I like to have a black dress for work in summer. (We have to wear black.) The fabric (linen-viscose) is living for almost 3 years now in my stash. Some of it is already a blouse. But I was missing the right pattern. Until now: I found a almost perfect one in the recent burda style: Nr. 110. Unfortunately it's a pattern for short people and I measure 1,77m. But I guess that alteration not such a big deal. Apart from this it's perfect from neckline to skirt!

Das andere Kleid ist ein traumhaftes Kleid von Sew Weekly: Das "I-Will-Never-Wear-a-Batik-Print" Batik Print Dress. Geht einfach mal gucken: Link. Ich will auch eins! Der Schnitt erinnert mich etwas an mein im letzten Sommer munter zusammengekreuztes Kleid aus verschiedenen burda-Schnitten.

The other dress is an adorable piece made by Sew Weekly: The "I-Will-Never-Wear-a-Batik-Print" Batik Print Dress. Just have a look: Link. I want one, too! The pattern reminds me of the dress I made last summer that I pieced together from different burda patterns.

Vielleicht benutze ich ihn noch mal. Fehlt nur noch so ein toller Stoff mit Musterbordüre. Gut, ich würde beim zweiten Mal einen anderen Ausschnitt ausprobieren, dieser hier ist nicht optimal (wie das Foto). Wie die Ansatzlinie vom Rock.

Perhaps I'll use it again. I just need such a nice border print fabric. Ok, and I'd probably change the neckline and lower the waistline. Because it's just not ideal (just like the picture).

Ich habe gerade den ersten Slip Stitch Scarf, der nicht von mir gemacht wurde, auf ravelry entdeckt! Mit Bildern!!! Wow, das macht mich ziemlich stolz und glücklich. :) Teresa hat ihn einfarbig gestrickt und er ist wirklich schön geworden und sieht schon auf dem Foto kuschelig und warm aus. Sie hat dem Design sogar einen kleinen Dreh verpasst. ;) Danke Teresa.

I just discovered the first Slip Stitch Scarf which isn't made by me on ravelry! With pictures!!! I'm so happy and also a bit proud :). Teresa knitted it in only one colour and it's looking so nice, soft and lovely. She even added a little twist to the design. ;) Thanks Teresa.

Geburtstagstasche

Von wegen, "... an einem Nachmittag, denn die Patchworktasche mit den Mustermix-Streifen ist schnell und leicht genäht"! Allein das Zuschneiden der 29(!) Teile und das Versehen von 25 davon mit Einlage hat gute 2 Stunden gedauert. Trotz Rollschneiders und cleverer Einlagetechnik.


"sewn in an afternoon, because the patchwork bag with different coloured stripes is sewn fast and easily" - hah! Don't believe it! The cutting of 29(!) pieces and putting fusible interlinig on 25 of them did take me 2 hours alone. Even though using a rotary cutter and cleverness while ironing the interlining on.

Die Anleitung war leider auch nicht ganz optimal. Als Anfänger wäre ich spätestens bei den Henkeln verzweifelt. Gut, das bin ich auch so schon fast. Das Wenden der mit Einlage verstärkten Henkel erwies sich als schlicht unmöglich. Hätte ich mal auf meine kleine innere Stimme gehört. So saß ich dann mit dem Nahttrenner auf der Couch. Ich habe vorher die Nahtzugaben umgebügelt, so dass ich sie nach dem Trennen einer Naht einfach nach Innen legen konnte und dann einfach knappkantig von außen drüber gesteppt habe. Das habe ich dann bei der bereits genähten Seite auch gemacht und das Ergebnis ist ziemlich schick.

Instructions weren't allways clear as well. If I was a beginner I'd finally given up on the handles. Well, allmost did anyway. Turning the handles (with interlining) simply proved impossible. I should have listened to my inner voice. But no, I sat down with my threadpicker. At least I had ironed the seam allowances before so it was easy folding them under and topstitching the handles. Made two times added a nice look to them.

Weitere Änderungen:  Die Henkel sind auf Wunsch 73cm lang.

Ich habe eine kleine Innentasche beim Nähen des Futters mitgefasst und einen Karabiner für den Schlüssel vorm Einnähen des Futters an das innere obere Taschenteil gesteppt. (Streifen war vom Henkel übrig).

Damit die Seitenteile nicht so sehr nach außen stehen, habe ich zwei kleine Druckknöpfe angenäht. Und einen großen Drucknopf auf die oberen Taschenteile zum Verschließen.

Further alterations: The handles are 73cm long as wished.

I added a small pocket when sewing the lining and sewed a hook for keys to the inner top. (With left over handle fabric.)

I didn't like the sides poking out when the bag wasn't full, so I added 2 tiny snap fasteners to the side panels. And a big snap at the top for closing the bag.

Alles in Allem habe ich einen Tag gebraucht. Allein das Raffen, Stecken und Annähen des Innenfutters per Hand hat bei mir noch mal fast 2 Stunden gebraucht. Es ist eine schöne Tasche geworden und der Aufwand hat sich definitiv gelohnt, aber es war eben auch ein ganz schöner Aufwand!

All in all I needed a full day. The gathering, pinning and sewing by hand of the lining took me again 2 hours alone! It's a nice bag and worth the effort, but definitely an effort!

selfish crafting - April

Es ist endlich warm und mich hat nach 'ner arbeitsreichen Woche auch noch 'ne Erkältung erwischt! Das ist ziemlich nervig und definitiv nicht konstruktiv. Deshalb muss ich heute verkünden, dass es im April kein selfish crafting Teil für mich geben wird. Immerhin habe ich das Geschenk für meine Mama endlich fertig bekommen. Aber dazu mehr am Sonntag, nachdem sie es bekommen hat!

Finally it's warm outside and after a week full of work I hang around having a cold! It's quite unhelpful and getting on my nerves (as well as I am getting on everybody elses). That's why I have to announce that there will not be a selfish crafting garnment for me this month. At least I finished the present for my mum. But more on this after coming weekend.

Hausaufgaben

Amazon ist einfach großartig! Innerhalb eines Tages war meine neue Lektüre da. Ich habe mir endlich das oft empfohlene Buch "Sweater Design in Plain English" zugelegt. Und es ist großartig!(Mir gehen anscheinend die Superlative aus.) So toll, dass ich das Strickzeug beiseite gelegt habe und am liebsten das ganze Buch durchlesen will, bevor ich mit meiner Strickjacke weiter mache. Nicht schlecht, oder!?

Das andere Buch habe ich mal für 50 Pfennige in der Ausverkaufskiste einer Bibliothek gefunden. Es ist ein Grundlagenbuch verschiedener Strickmuster und -techniken und war mir schon so oft eine Hilfe. Man muss eben manchmal auch Glück haben.

Amazon is great! It just took one day for my new book to arrive. I finally bought the often recommended book "Sweater Design in Plain English". And it's wonderful! So much so, that I put down the knitting needles and would love to read the book cover to cover before going on with my cardi. Not bad, eh!?


The other book I found years ago in the sales bin of a library for just 50 Pfennig (this would be 0,25€ now). It's covering the basics of different knitting patterns and techniques and helped me out quite often. Sometimes you just have to be lucky, I guess.

Hinter den Kulissen

Ich habe mal wieder so viele Projekte in der Warteschleife, dass sich keines so richtig vorwärts bewegt. Hier ein kurzer Abriss in absolut willkürlicher Reihenfolge:

Bereits erwähnt wurden: Babysocken, eine neue Strickjacke und eine Bluse. Des weiteren gibt es erste Anpassungen für die Übergangsjacke, eine seit 2 Jahren auseinander genommene Leinenhose (sie war zu groß), die neu genäht werden will, ein bunter Cordrock (der erste, den ich genäht habe, auch er ist zu weit) und der blaue Stoff im Vordergrund ist der Anfang einer Tasche, die sich meine Mama zum Geburtstag wünscht (ich habe noch 12 Tage!!!).

Once again I have so many projects sitting around, that nothing seems to get on. Here a short overview in random order:

Already mentioned: babysocks, the new cardi and the shirt/blouse. The others are the spring jacket (you can see the altered muslin here), dark brown linen trousers (taken apart two years ago because they were to wide), a printed corduroy skirt (the first I ever made for myself and now to wide, too) and finally the blue fabric is the first step to a bag my mum wants for her birthday (I still have 12 days left).
