Elinor - auf deutsch

Ich habe es endlich geschafft Elinor auch auf Deutsch zu übersetzen. Ab sofort kann das Strickmuster jetzt auch bei ravelry für 3,00€ käuflich erworben werden. Eine gute Sache hatte die Übersetzung auch für die englische Version: ich habe ein paar blöde Fehler im letzten Update entdeckt. In den "written instructions", die ich spontan hinzugefügt hatte, als ich krank war. Und die ich natürlich nicht noch mal extra kontrolliert hatte. Das wird mir hoffentlich eine Lehre sein, nicht mehr "mal eben" Sachen umzuschreiben. Das heißt, es gab auch gleich ein neues Update auf Englisch.

I finally did a German translation for the Elinor Shawlette. And it's been a good thing for the English version, too: I found some dull errors I made when adding the written instructions. I hope nobody has already run into any problems because of them. I'm really sorry. So in addition to the German translation I updated the English version today as well. The lesson I learned today: Never alter a pattern "just a bit".

Tutorial - Short Rows

For all who feel a bit intimidated by the short rows used in the Elinor Shawlette I decided to do a tutorial on working these.

Hier kommt ein kleines Tutorial über das Stricken von verkürzten Reihen, die ich zur Konstruktion von Elinor benutzt habe. Es ist wirklich nicht schwer, wenn man mal gesehen hat, wie es funktioniert.

We start right after you knit the number of stitches mentioned in the pattern.

Es geht los, nachdem die im Strickmuster angegebene Anzahl Maschen gestrickt wurde.

Bring the yarn to the front of your work and slip the next stitch from the left to the right needle purlwise.

Den Arbeitsfaden vor die Arbeit bringen und die nächste Masche von der linken auf die rechte Nadel wie zum links Stricken abheben.

Bring the yarn back again and slip the slipped stitch back to the left needle.

Den Arbeitsfaden wieder hinter die Arbeit legen und die abgehobene Masche wieder zurück auf die linke Nadel heben.

The stitch is now wrapped. Turn your work.

Die Masche ist nun einmal mit dem Arbeitsfaden umwickelt. Die Arbeit wenden.

Holding your yarn tight, purl the next stitches like mentioned in the pattern.

Mit fester Spannung auf dem Arbeitsfaden die nächste Masche links stricken.

Insert the right needle into the wraps and stitch upwards from the front of the work (aka pick up knitwise) and transfer all three yarn loops back to the left needle.

Die rechte Nadel wie zum rechts Stricken von unten in die beiden Wickel und die von ihnen umwickelte Masche einstechen und alle drei auf die linke Nadel heben. 

Knit the two wraps and stitch through the back loop (purlwise) as one stitch.

Elinor - Update

Just a short notice that I updated the Elinor pattern. After recieving some requests for written instructions for the lace boarder I included them today. I also sent the update out to all buyers, if you didn't recieve it, please contact me.

Elinor

Ich habe es endlich geschafft und das Strickmuster meines kleinen Dreieckstuchs online gestellt. Es nur Shawlette zu nennen war mir dann doch zu beliebig, so dass ich nach einem passenden Namen gesucht habe. Gefunden habe ich ihn in Elinor, der Heldin des Jane Austen Romans "Sinn und Sinnlichkeit". Gut, es hat bestimmt ein bisschen geholfen, dass ich das Buch grad gehört habe, aber der grafische Spitzenrand legte eine rationale Heldin mit Hang zur Romantik durchaus nahe. ;)

Zum Tuch selbst bleibt nur zu sagen, dass es quer gestrickt wird, was bedeutet, dass man fast in jeder Reihe das Vergnügen hat, sowohl glatte Maschen, als auch Lochmuster zu stricken. Außerdem geht es schnell voran. Das breiteste Stück auf den Nadeln ist der Mittelteil und der macht mit jeder Menge verkürzten Reihen auch jede Menge Spaß beim Stricken. Im Moment habe ich nur eine englische Version veröffentlicht, da mir die englischen Strickbegriffe irgendwie leichter fallen. Falls genug Leute an einer deutschen Übersetzung interessiert sind, werde ich mich da auch mal noch dran setzen.

I finally have made the shawlette available at ravelry. Calling it just that didn't seem anymore as a good idea so I went hunting for a name and came up with Elinor, the heroine of Jane Austen's "Sense and Sensibility". It may have something to do with me listening to this very book at that time, but is a good match anyway for an interesting knit and a geometric lace. ;)

Elinor the shawlette is knit sideways which means you can enjoy stockinette and lace knitting all in one (and almost every) row. And it's a fast knit. The widest part to knit is the middle section which is fun in itself because of a lot of short rows. The lace part is written as a chart, which is the way I work and think. But if there is a number of people interested in a written version I'm going to include an additional side of it, too.

Shawlette - Fotos

Das Tuch ist fertig, ich habe am Mittwoch Fotos geschossen und am Muster gearbeitet. Soweit so gut, jetzt muss das Strickmuster nur noch getestet werden... Ich bin allerdings ziemlich aufgeregt :) und verdammt zufrieden mit dem Ergebnis. Es ist tatsächlich so geworden, wie ich es mir gedacht hatte. Eigentlich sogar besser, denn die Wolle ergab nach dem Spannen ein sehr weiches, fließendes Gewebe. Damit hatte ich bei Sockenwolle irgendwie nicht gerechnet. Und jetzt lasse ich die Fotos sprechen und wünsche ein schönes Wochenende.

The shawl is finished, I took pictures of it on wednesday and have already worked on the pattern. It only lacks some finishing touches and has to be testknit... I'm so exited :) und really happy with the outcome. It turned out exactly the way I had it in mind. Actually even better, as the sock yarn I used blocked out really drapy. Something I somehow didn't expect in a sock yarn. Here are more pictures to talk for themselves. Have a nice weekend.

Wochenrückblick

Es ist vollbracht! Das Tuch ist fertig. Die Wolle hat gereicht (es war dann doch nicht ganz so knapp, wie zwischendurch befürchtet, ich musste meine Probeecke nicht auftrennen). Im Moment ist es aufgespannt und ich bin gespannt, wie es fertig aussehen und fallen wird!

Auch der erste Ärmel für den Fair Isle Pullover ist endlich fertig geworden. Soweit ich das beurteilen kann, stimmen meine Berechnungen. Wirklich wissen tue ich das aber erst, wenn ich ihn zusammen nähe.

A propos nähen - an dieser Front hat sich letzte Woche leider wieder nichts getan. Aber Lust aufs Nähen habe ich inzwischen schon wieder...also mal sehen was die nächsten Wochen bringen.

I did it! My shawlette is finished. There was enough yarn (I didn't run as short as it seemed while nearing the end and I didn't have to frogg my swatch). It's blocking at the moment and I'm really curious how it will look and drape after this!

I also finished the first sleeve of my Fais Isle Jumper. As far as I can see at this moment, my calculations are right. I won't know until I sew it up, though.

Talking about sewing - nothing happened in this quarter last week. I can feel my sewing-mojo coming back so there might be some progress during the following weeks.

Wochenrückblick

Oder besser Wochenendenrückblick. Wie vermutet wurde es ein Wochenende des Strickens. Und leider auch eines des Auftrennens. Sowohl am Tuch als auch am Fair Isle Pullover gab es Fehler, die nur durch beherztes zurück trennen und noch mal neu stricken zu beheben waren. Beide Male war ich natürlich nicht so ganz unschuldig. Beim Tuch hatte ich mich verrechnet, und beim Pullover nicht genug aufgepasst und dann kamen dort auch noch Unklarheiten und ein Setzfehler im Strickmuster dazu, durch den ich aber meinen eigenen fand...

Aber von vorn. Als es an den Halsausschnitt ging habe ich eine halbe Reihe zu wenig gestrickt, weshalb ich die Kanten von Arm- und Halsausschnitt in der Folge vertauschte. Sah schon komisch aus, aber ich machte weiter. Bis ich an einen Punkt kam, an dem es sinngemäß hieß: stricke bis nur noch 5 Maschen übrig sind, stricke diese beiden Maschen zusammen. Häh!? Also verglich ich die Stelle mit dem Originalmuster und bemerkte noch mehr Unterschiede, die beim Nachrechnen auch eine andere Form des Halsausschnitts ergaben. Die dort später anzusetzende Passe war aber 1:1 übernommen worden. Außerdem fiel mir durch das ganze Nachrechnen auf, dass ich noch viel eher eine Anweisung falsch verstanden hatte. Mit "an den Enden der nächsten 5 Reihen 1 Maschen abnehmen" war an beiden Enden der nächsten 5 Reihen gemeint. Gemein für einen Nicht-Muttersprachler nach einem Satz, der Abnahmen am Anfang der nächsten 2 Reihen forderte... Also zurück zum Anfang der Armausschnitte - und wieder gestrickt. Inzwischen ist das ganze Vorderteil fertig. Die Rechnung für lange Ärmel auch. Soviel zum Fair Isle Jumper Zwischenstand. Das Tuch habe ich jetzt auch halb fertig. Zum zweiten Mal.

Last weekend was as expected a weekend full of knitting but also unfortunately one of ripping back. The shawlette as well as the fair isle jumper had mistakes that could only be solved by ripping them out and doing it once again. Both times I haven't been free of guilt, of course. I miscalculated a part of the shawlette and wasn't paying enough attention when knitting the jumper. The jumper pattern proved also to have a mistake due to editing, but at least this is how I found my own...


Let's start at the beginning. When I came to the neck decreases I purled half a row less than needed. Because of this I switched neck and arm decreases and had a pretty odd looking thing. I did wonder but not enough to doubt. This started when I reached a point where the pattern stated something like "...until 5 stitches remain. Work 3 rows on these two remaining stitches." But there was no instruction on how to decrease from five to two stiches. So I checked the original pattern and it seems that there were whole lines that got deleted accidentally somewhere during the publishing process. But by going through all of the instructions I found a misunderstanding between me and the pattern: I misintepreted the "decrease 1 st at each end of the next 5 rows." Which of course ment both rows, but I just made them once per row. So it was back to the start of the arm holes. But the front is finished now. So much for the Fair Isle Jumper for now. I also finished half of the shawlette by now. Again.

Ich bin dann mal weg

... übers Wochenende. Ich werde hoffentlich viel zum Stricken kommen, deshalb kommt nicht nur der Pullover, dessen Vorderteil fast fertig ist, sondern auch das Tuch mit. Bis jetzt kommt es auch gut voran. Mal sehen, wie weit ich am Sonntag Abend bin. ;) Die Nähmaschine hat momentan leider noch Pause, aber auch das wird sich hoffentlich nächste Woche ändern.

I'll be away for the week-end. I hope to have lots of knitting time so I will take the jumper with me (I am about to finish the front) as well as the shawlette. This is growing quite nicely, too. I'm curious how much I will have to show on sunday evening. ;) The sewing mashine is still in hibernation but will hopefully be wakened next week.

wenn ich mich mit dem entspannten "immer geradeaus" glatt rechts Pullover zufrieden geben würde. Ich komme gut voran, aber dann hatte ich letzte Woche die Idee für ein Tuch. Und gestern habe ich gerechnet und gegrübelt und damit angefangen :).

It would have been too simple if I had sticked to the "mindless" knitting of plain stockinette. I really am making good progress, but last week I had an idea for a shawlette. So yesterday I calculated, thought hard and finally started it.
