My newest toy

Ich habe ein neues Spielzeug: sattgrüne Wolle (ecco von Zitron) für eine neue Strickjacke. Ich habe lange nach einem Muster dafür gesucht und habe keins gefunden, das so richtig dem entsprach, was mir vorschwebte (ich hatte mal wieder schon viel zu genaue Vorstellungen). Also habe ich meine Ideen skizziert, war Wolle kaufen und mache es ganz selbst.

Der Plan - eine figurnahe Strickjacke mit Stehkragen und Reißverschluss in der vorderen Mitte. Im Vorderteil je eine Blattranke und ein Zopf, den Rücken zieren eine Blattranke in der Mitte und 2 Zöpfe an den Seiten. Die langen, eingesetzten Ärmel zieht sich auch eine Blattranke hoch.

Gestern habe ich also die Wolle gekauft und gleich am Abend zwischen meinen Runden MarioCart die erste Maschenprobe glatt rechts gestrickt.

I have a new toy: deep green wool (ecco by Zitron) for a new cardigan. I have been looking long and hard for the right pattern but didn't find anything I wanted just as it was. (Like so often, I already had a very clear idea of how this garnment should look exactly.) So I sketched down my ideas, bought wool and will be doing it on my own.


The plan - a fitted cardi with a stand-up collar and a front zipper. Each front will feature a leaf motive and a cable, the back one centered leaf motive and two cables. And also the lon gsleeves will have the leaf motive going upwards.


So I bought the wool yesterday and started the first swatch right away on the same evening - in between my turns on MarioCart.

Ostereier

Ostern ist vorbei und ich bin endlich mal wieder zu all den netten Annehmlichkeiten gekommen, die im Alltag oft zu kurz kommen: Familie & Freunde besuchen, lesen, stricken und nähen...

Das Ergebnis: diverse Babysocken, ein halber Agatha Christie und ich habe mich für einen Schnitt für die Bluse entschieden. Nr 103 aus der burda 8/2009, er fällt wesentlich Figurbetonter aus, als das Foto vermuten lässt. Das Kopieren des Schnitts und die unvermeidliche FBA habe ich auch schon geschafft.

Easter is gone and I finally had time for the nicer things in life like visiting family & friends, reading, knitting and sewing...

The result: some babysocks, half an Agatha Christie and deciding on a pattern for my new blouse/shirt. It's Nr 103 of burda 8/2009, which is more fitted than it seems on above photo. I already finished copying the pieces and making the unavoidable FBA.

Kein Aprilscherz - serious fabric addiction!

Was ich brauche, ist eine neue Jacke für den Frühling und miese Sommertage. Mein Plan ist es den Mantelschnitt zu recyclen. Das Nesselmodell habe ich schon dementsprechend gekürzt. Als Stoff schwebt mir ein fester Baumwollköper in dunkelblau/marine vor. Deshalb (und um mich aufzumuntern) hab ich vor zwei Tagen nen Abstecher in die Karstadt-Stoffabteilung meiner Nachbarschaft gemacht. Und prompt keinen Köper (den hatten sie zwar, er war mir aber dann doch etwas zu dünn und dunkel um spontan zuzuschlagen) sondern einen Chiffon gefunden. Ich konnte einfach an nichts anderes mehr denken, als an einen Bluse mit Schleife aus diesem Stoff... Ich bin dann später noch mal hin und habe ihn kaufen müssen. Und dann war nicht mal mehr ein ganzer Meter da. Also habe ich noch fix royalblauen Baumwollsatin dazu gepackt und für nicht ganz 10€ (hatte ich schon erwähnt, dass der Chiffon nur 4(!!!)€ kostete!?) Stoff für einen neue Frühlingsbluse erstanden. (Jetzt muss ich sie nur noch nähen...)

What I need is a new Jacket for spring and cold summer days. So I plan to recycle the pattern of the coat I made earlier this year. The muslin has been already shortened accordingly. The fabric should be a sturdy cotton twill in navy or a dark shade of blue. So I went to have a look at the fabric department of a department store in my neighbourhood. And to pick me up a bit ;o). And guess what I found: chiffon! The twill they had was a bit to fibbly and to dark for my liking. But I just couldn't stop thinking about a shirt with a bow made of this chiffon. So I had to go back and buy it. But there was less than a metre left of it so I bought some matching royal blue cotton satin, too. For just under 10€ (did I mention the chiffon was just 4€ a metre!?) I purchased fabric for a new sping shirt to be. (Just have to make it now...)

Selfish Crafting Year!

Nachdem ich Anfang des Jahres so viel über den Januar als "selfish knitting month" (Monat des Strickegoismus) gehört habe, blieb die Idee, wirklich Sachen für mich zu machen, hängen. Denn ich habe zwar jede Menge Ideen, stelle dann aber anderes immer voran. Deshalb habe ich mir für dieses Jahr vorgenommen, jeden Monat ein Kleidungsstück für mich fertig zu stellen. Bis jetzt funktioniert es!

Januar: Weinrote Strickjacke (Dauer: 8 Monate)

After hearing so much about january being the selfish knitting month, the idea of really doing something for myself stuck. I always have heaps of ideas but do things for others first, So I losely pledged myself to finish each month one garnment for me. So far this has really worked out!

Dorset Tutorial

Heute geht es um diesen hübschen Knopf:

Ein Garn bezogener Knopf - genannt Dorset Button. Insgesamt 10 davon werden bald meine neue Strickjacke zieren. Denn sie sind leicht und haben die gleiche Farbe wie die Jacke, denn es ist ja das gleiche Garn. Die originalen Hornringe gab es natürlich nicht bei uns im Handarbeitsladen, aber dafür Rohlinge für "Creativ-Knöpfe" für nur 2,70€. Da musste ich zuschlagen.

A Dorset Button is a button covered with yarn. 10 of them will be part of my new cardigan soon. They are lightweight and match perfectly because they are made of the same yarn. I didn't get the orignal rings you need to make them, but these "creative buttons" for a bargain. So I had to give it a try.

Außer den Rohlingen braucht man eine Schere, Stopfnadel und Garn. Ich habe mein Baumwollgarn dafür gespalten und nur 2 Fäden (von 10) benutzt. Länge: knapp 3m.

Beside the buttons you need a tapestry needle, scissors and yarn. I split my cotton yarn and just used 2 of the strands. Length: ca. 3 metres.

1. Schritt: Ein Knoten (der Einfachheit halber, habe ich das Ende angeknotet).

Secure the end of the yarn with a knot.

2. Schritt: Die Nadel von vorn durch die Mitte des Rohlings führen und die Garnschlaufe mitfassen.

Pass the needle through the hole in the middle from front to back. Catch the yarn loop.

3. Schritt: Festziehen. Ich habe mit diesen Stichen im Uhrzeigersinn den ganzen Rohling bezogen.

Pull. I covered the whole button clockwise with those stitches.

4. Schritt: Ungefähr ab der Hälfte des Knopfes das Garnende einfach mitfassen.

After covering half the button also cover the end of the yarn.

5. Schritt: Nachdem der ganze Knopf bezogen ist, kann man mit einer Ziernaht die Fäden vor späterem Verschieben sichern.

After covering the whole button you can secure the thing from twisting with a line of stitches.

6. Schritt: Vernähen und fertig ist der Knopf!

Weave in end - finished!

Zusätzliche Bemerkung: die obere Knotenkante wird nicht automatisch einen gleichmäßigen Abstand zum Rand haben. Man kann ihn mit dem Daumen aber leicht "hinbiegen".

Additional advice: the knots will not be automaticly in the same distance to the upper edge. You can cange this with your thumb quite easily.
