Me-Made-March ich komme!

Just the short info that I finally joined the Me-Made-March. As I wanted to up the ante this time I setteled on wearing at least 3 me made garments or accessoires each day. This isn't excluding anything bought, but will get me into wearing and combining my me made things even more than I already do. 3 things each day is a bit past my comfort zone, but not too much as I don't want it to rule my days. ;)

Nur kurz die Info, dass ich mich endlich für den Me-Made-March angemeldet habe. Ich wollte ja den Einsatz erhöhen, und habe mich schlussendlich dafür entschieden täglich mindestens 3 selbst gemachte Kleidungsstücke oder Accessoires zu tragen. Das schließt gekaufte Dinge nicht aus, sorgt aber trotzdem dafür, dass ich größtenteils selbst gemachte Sachen trage werde. Es liegt außerdem so ein ganz klein bisschen außerhalb dessen, was ich eh jeden Tag mache. :)

Sonnenschein

Outside the sun is shining and despite the freezing temperatures I'm very motivated to knit my spring top. Although I had to frog most of it last week-end because I had made a stupid mistake at the beginning. I'm learning the hard way again. But each time ripping out is hurting a bit less. ;) Today I'm almost as far as I have been last friday - and having better photo conditions. So here come a few of my progress so far:

Draußen scheint die Sonne und obwohl es eiskalt ist, bin ich sehr motiviert weiter an meinem Frühlingstop zu stricken. Und dass obwohl ich letztes Wochenende fast alles bis dahin gestrickte wieder auftrennen musste, weil ich am Anfang nen blöden Fehler in den Berechnungen hatte. Naja, ich lerne anscheinend mal wieder auf die harte Tour. Aber das Auftrennen fällt mir inzwischen jedes Mal etwas weniger schwer. ;) Heute bin ich endlich wieder ungefähr da, wo ich letzten Freitag  vor dem Auftrennen war - und habe bessere Fotobedingungen. Fortschritt

Last weekend I finally did cut the dress and now I'm ready to sew. Am I the only one that doesn't likes the cutting the project?

Ok, I think in my case this is very much due to not having a proper table to cut on. I have to use the floor and that is much to close to sport for my liking. And it makes cutting a task that I can't break up in smaller ones. If I want to move around the room I'm cutting in, that is... but enough whining! I am finished with the cutting for now and it's been so much faster and easier since I have my two big cutting mats. :)

Ich habe es letztes Wochenende geschafft, das Kleid zuzuschneiden und kann jetzt endlich mit dem Nähen anfangen. Bin ich eigentlich die einzige, die nicht gern zuschneidet?

Gut, das liegt bestimmt auch daran, dass ich keinen richtigen Zuschneidetisch habe und deshalb immer auf dem Boden herumrobbe. Aber ich empfinde das immer als so anstrengend und als den größten Akt eines Nähprojekts. Alles andere kann man Stück für Stück erledigen. Aber wenn ich den Raum betreten möchte, in dem ich den Boden blockiere, muss ich das wohl oder übel durchziehen. Aber genug gejammert! Ich bin mit dem Zuschnitt durch und dank meiner beiden Schneidematten ging es auch schon wesentlich schneller und einfacher als früher. :)

Lingerie

So, what am I to do with this lace? It's just sooo tempting. At this moment I'm torn between a panty, knickers, a camisole or a full slip. Unfortunately I only allowed myself to buy about 1m as it was pure impulse buying. So I will have to chose wisely. I have patterns for all of these so this won't make a decision any easier. Especially with all these wonderful blog posts about lingerie sewing that popped up around Valentine's Day. Inspiration overload. Just to give you a hint, here are two very inspiring blog posts. Also, was mache ich aus der Spitze? Im Moment kann ich mich nicht so richtig zwischen Slip, Knickers, Hemdchen oder Unterkleid entscheiden. Leider habe ich mir damals bei diesem Impulskauf nur einen Meter erlaubt, was heißt, dass ich mich wohl oder übel entscheiden muss. Da ich für all das tatsächlich Schnittmuster habe, macht mir das die Entscheidung auch nicht leichter. Und dann gibt es da noch diese wundervollen Blog Posts über selbst genähte Unterwäsche, die rund um den Valentinstag auftauchten. Zwei besonders schöne findet Ihr oben. Auf diesen Blogs gibt es noch ein paar Posts mehr zu diesem schönen Thema zu entdecken...

Licht!

Finally the sun has more power and it's getting noticeably lighter - even if it isn't making it through the clouds. So my mood and my motivation to sew have been getting better by the day, too. I picked up the dress muslin again and I managed to make it into a wearable version for me by adding two waist darts in the front piece and widening the skirt from high hip to hemline (9 cm on each side of the side seam at the hem). I even got around to marking my alterations on the paper pattern. Next step is cutting and then it's just the fun of sewing. :)

Apart from the greenish fabric for the dress there are a few others that are prewashed and waiting longingly to be sewn into garments. There are: the denim for my new pair of jeans, navy wool-mix garbardine destined to become a circle skirt and peplum jacket, navy batiste with red dots (originally bought as lining for the jacket above but perhaps rather going to be a top) and some lace for underwear which I bought last summer. I have to admit the cherry blossom embroidery on the lace is calling my name the loudest...

Endlich hat die Sonne mehr Kraft und es wird merklich heller - selbst wenn es die Sonne nicht durch die Wolken schafft. Das hat einen sehr positiven Effekt sowohl auf meine Laune, als auch auf meine Näh-Motivation. Ich hatte endlich Lust mich meines Versuchskleids anzunehmen und habe es mit zwei zusätzlichen Taillenabnähern im Vorderteil und seitlichem Ausstellen des Rockteils tatsächlich in eine für mich tragbare Form gebracht. Die Änderungen habe ich auch schon auf den Schnitt übertragen - ich bin bereit zuzuschneiden. :)

Außer dem grünlichen Stoff gucken mich noch so ein paar Stöffchen sehnsüchtig an. Alle vorgewaschen und bereit in neue Kleidungsstücke verwandelt zu werden. Als da wären: der Jeansstoff für eine neue Jeans, dunkelblauer Wollmischgabardine (Kostüm aus Tellerrock und Jacke mit Schößchen), dunkelblauer Batist mit roten Punkten (eigentlich als Jackenfutter gedacht, aber vielleicht doch ein Oberteil??) und im letzten Sommer gekaufte Spitze aus der Unterwäsche (ein Höschen?) werden soll. Die aufgestickten Kirschblüten der Spitze rufen meinen Namen grad am lautesten...

Me?

This week Zoe announced the Me-made-march 11. You can sign up at her blog. The big question here is: Am I going to participate myself? After doing the Self-Stitched-September last year I had lost a bit of my sewing mojo due to realising that my wardrobe was full of stuff I really liked and made myself. This time I'm hoping it's going to fuel my sewing mojo. As I wrote here earlier this week, I'm already dreaming of springtime additions to my wardrobe and if I challenge myself well enough I have the high hope I'm motivated enough to get some sewn garments done. So, yes, I'm going to participate. And I will up the ante, too. But to which extent still remains to be chosen.



Zoe hat diese Woche den Me-Made-März 2011 angekündigt. Man kann sich auch schon auf ihrem Blog dazu anmelden. Die wichtige Frage hier ist natürlich: Werde ich teilnehmen? Nachdem der Self-Stitched-September bei mir eher zu einem kleinen Verlust meiner Näh-Motivation geführt hat nachdem ich feststellte, dass ich schon jede Menge Sachen in meinem Kleiderschrank habe, die ich mag und die selbst gemacht sind. Da ich allerdings damit angefangen habe, von neuen Teilen für den Frühling zu träumen, habe ich die Hoffnung, dieses mal mit dem Me-Made-März meine Motivation etwas anzustacheln. Ich muss meine Selbstverpflichtung nur geschickt genug formulieren... Also ja, ich werde wieder mit von der Partie sein. Und ich werde meinen Einsatz erhöhen. Aber um wie viel genau, bleibt noch zu überlegen.

Flip Top Update

I just wanted to add here, too, that I added a M size for female hands to the Slip Stitch Flip Tops pattern. Anyone teased?

Nur die kurze Info, dass das Slip Stitch Flip Top Strickmuster jetzt auch eine M Größe (passend für weibliche Hände) enthält. Leider allerdings immer noch nicht in deutscher Übersetzung... Konnte ich damit Interesse wecken?

An die Nadeln, fertig, los!

The yarn shop just around the corner is open again (yay!) and so I paid a visit last week. After being even allowed to dig into boxes of yarn (the cotton hadn't been bought out properly then) I went away with some beautiful deep red cotton yarn and matching off-white skeins. I plan to make a top for spring. I am already putting together my (dream)wardrobe for spring now. But I guess this may deserve an extra-post soon.

swatching/Maschenprobe

I also bought one ball of olive green merino woll by lang which I have already knit up. It's a cute little hat now. "Baby Who" by Sheryl Reed (the pattern can also be found on her blog). I did make it last november for the new.born daughter of a friend. Now she has grown out of it and requested a new one. I casted on 8 stitches more this time. This did work out perfectly with the head circumferrence as well as with the sequence of the crown decreases. Now the hat just has to get to the little receipient...

Der Wollladen um die Ecke hat endlich wieder auf und ich habe ihm letzte Woche auch gleich einen Besuch abgestattet. Nachdem ich sogar in Kisten wühlen durfte (die Baumwolle war eigentlich noch im Lager) bin ich mit schickem dunkelroten Baumwollgarn und passendem fast-weißem nach Hause gegangen. Ich habe mir nämlich ein Top für den Frühling in den Kopf gesetzt. So langsam fange ich an meine (Traum-)Frühlingsgarderobe zu planen. Aber mehr dazu wahrscheinlich in einem anderen Post...


Meinen anderen Kauf, olivgrüne Merinowolle von Lang, habe ich schon verstrickt. In eine kleine, süße Mütze. "Baby Who" von Sheryl Reed (das Strickmuster gibt es auch auf ihrem Blog). Ich habe sie im November schon einmal für die Tochter einer Freundin gestrickt. Jetzt ist sie rausgewachsen und wünscht sich eine neue :).  Ich habe deshalb dieses Mal 8 Maschen mehr angeschlagen. Das hat wunderbarerweise sowohl zum aktuellen Kopfumfang als auch zu den Abnahmen des Strickmusters gepasst. Jetzt muss sie nur noch zur kleinen Empfängerin...

Slip Stitch Flip Tops

The pattern for the Slip Stitch Flip Tops is finally finished and published on ravelry. Yesterday I made a diagramm to clearify the attachment of the flip tops and after I included it, the pattern was as good as it could get. It's taken me around two months from idea and sketch to finished pattern... so here come the specifications:

Size: for male hands of a circumference of ca. 25cm/10" and a length of 18.5cm/7.3".

Yarn: Zitron Lifestyle (155m/50g, 100% Merino) 1 ball in each colour.

Needles: 3mm & 3.5mm dpns, 3mm crochet hook, darning needle.

Level: Intermediate.

Language: English.

Price: 3.00€.

These mittens go great with the Slip-Stitch-Scarf. The pattern immitates a checkered pattern using slipped stitches, which makes them really soft and warm. With these Flip-Tops you easily grab your keys or look for change without having to take off the mitts.

Da bin ich wieder.

The last week has been busier than I thought... at least I finished the FBA on my dress pattern and even got the muslin together. And I'm so happy I did one! The A-line shape is (like I already feared) not made for me. The upper fit was ok but there was a big bag of air in the area of my stomach. (What did I expect as there clearly weren't any waist darts in the front piece?!) And the skirt is ridiculous! I can't move around properly in it. Riding my (men's)bike would be entirely impossible. Which I would clearly expect in a pencil skirt but not in a dress shape that is thought about as "liberating".

Ok, as I mentioned before, I had a strong suspection of those problems, but I just choose to ignore them until my muslin hopefully proved them wrong. So I already had a plan B. Which means using the upper part of the dress, adding waist darts in the front and combining it with a full skirt. This will make it also easier to make a swayback alteration. I will decide if I'm doing a gathered or a pleated skirt depending on how much fabric will be left for it. I haven't made these alterations to the pattern yet, but I'm still hopeful on finishing the dress in the near future.

my bike in december/mein Rad im Dezember...

Die vergangene Woche war dann doch um einiges stressiger als gedacht... wenigstens habe ich die Oberweitenanpassung am Kleiderschnitt geschafft und das Probemodell genäht. Und das war wirklich eine gute Entscheidung, denn die A-Linie ist (wie befürchtet) leider nichts für mich. Oben ging es ja, aber in der Magengegend hatte ich einen großen Batzen Luft. (Was habe ich eigentlich von einem Schnitt erwartet, der keine Taillenabnäher im Vorderteil hat!?) Allerdings ist auch der Rock ein Witz! Ich kann mich kaum drin bewegen und Radfahren wäre erst recht nicht drin. Gut, wenn das jetzt ein Bleistiftrock wäre, dann würde ich davon ausgehen, aber eine Schnittform, die durchaus auch für die Frauenbefreiung steht?

Gut, wie schon gesagt, ich habe ja damit gerechnet, aber lieber erstmal ausprobiert, ob ich mich vielleicht doch irre (ach, wär' das schön gewesen). Aber es soll eben nicht sein. Also geht es weiter mit Plan B: ich werde nur die obere Hälfte des Kleids benutzen und sie mit Taillenabnähern auf Figur bringen. Daran wird dann ein weiter Rock angesetzt. Ich kann mir sowohl einen angereihten als auch einen Faltenrock vorstellen und werde mal sehen, was der Stoff hergibt. Aber so weit bin ich noch nicht. Ich hoffe allerdings immer noch darauf, das Projekt recht schnell fertig zu stellen...
