Faire Entscheidung

Kaum bin ich mit meiner grünen Strickjacke unter den Armen angekommen, plane ich auch schon das nächste Projekt: Einen Pullover mit Fair Isle Passe. Nachdem ich zum letzten Geburtstag von meinen allerliebsten Freunden "A Stitch in Time" voller wunderschöner historischer Strickmuster bekommen habe, wage ich mich endlich an das erste Projekt. So gaaanz entschieden habe ich mich natürlich mal wieder noch nicht. Entweder wird es "Fair Isle Jumper" oder "Fair Isle Yoke". Es wird das erste Mal, dass ich mich an Fair Isle Knitting wage, also stricken mit mindestens 2 Farben gleichzeitig. Deshalb werde ich mich auch ans Strickmuster halten, nur etwas verlängern werde ich den Pullover und die Ärmel, weil mir das besser steht. Und der untere Teil ist ja bei beiden Modellen Gott-sei-Dank einfarbig. Wenn die Wahl auf Fair Isle Jumper fällt, wird es wohl auch eher ein Rollkragen, weil ich runde Ausschnitte nicht mag. Aber das sind kleine Abänderungen, die mir keine Sorgen machen.

Fair Isle Jumper

Having just reached the armholes on my green cardigan, I am planning my next project: A pullover with a fair isle yoke. After getting "A Stitch in Time" last birthday from my wonderful friends, which is full of beautiful vintage knitting patterns, I'll finally start my first project from it. As usually, I am not decided 100%, as I am torn between "Fair Isle Jumper" and "Fair Isle Yoke". It's going to be my first Fair Isle project. That's why I decided to stick to the pattern instructions, at least for the fair isle parts. I am going to make it longer & long sleeved and if I decided on knitting the "Jumper" I will do a turtle neck instead of the crew one because it flatters me much more. But those are just minor tweaks that won't mean to much headache.

Die Auswahl des Garns stellt mich zur Zeit vor das größte Problem (neben dem "mich-entscheiden", natürlich). Es wäre natürlich das beste, das Originalgarn zu benutzen, das ich aus Groß-Britannien bestellen müsste. Für beide Pullover ist es das selbe: 2ply Jumper Weight von Jamieson & Smith. Preislich ganz ok, kann ich so die Farben nicht persönlich sehen und ausprobieren, wie so ein Knäul sich zu meiner Gesichtsfarbe verhält. Ähm, ja, mein Wollladen um die Ecke hat einen Spiegel, wofür ich seeeehr dankbar bin. Alternativ könnte ich natürlich ein Garn benutzen, dass ich hier im Laden kaufen kann. Aber welches? Keine Ahnung. Ich habe ja noch fast eine halbe Strickjacke lang Zeit, mich zu entscheiden...

Fair Isle Yoke

Deciding on the yarn is my biggest issue at the moment (apart from deciding, of course). It would be best to use the one used in the pattern which is 2ply jumper weight from Jamieson & Smith for both. It has to be ordered from the UK. The price is ok but I can't hold balls of yarn next to my face to see how my skin tone reacts to it. Yes, my LOS has a mirror and I am veeery grateful for it. I could also use another yarn, which I could get here. But which? I have not the faintest idea. But I still have almost half a cardigan's worth of time to decide...

Souvenir

Der Urlaub in Schottland war perfekt getimt. (Aha, so wird das geschrieben!) Denn die Schafe standen kurz vor der Schafschur und hatten so viel Wolle auf dem Leib, dass sie sie schon langsam verloren... Ich konnte nicht anders und habe begonnen die "gute Wolle" aufzusammeln und in meinen Rucksack zu stopfen. Es ist über die Tage ein recht ansehnlicher Beutel geworden. Nach etwas dran rumfummeln und der besorgten Frage, eines mitreisenden Freundes, ob er mal gucken solle, ob seine Eltern noch immer ein altes Spinnrad auf dem Dachboden hätten (das klingt jetzt irgendwie nach Dornröschen), wusste ich auch endlich, was daraus werden sollte.

My trip to Scotland had perfect timing. The sheep were very close to being shom and had so much wool on them they were actually loosing it all over the place. I could restrict myself and started collecting the nicest of the locks and tucked them into my backpack. It became a nice bag full of fibre. After a bit of fumbling around with it and the concerned question of a friend if he should check if his parents still had an old spinning whell in their attic (that's sounding pretty briar rose like, now), I knew just what to do with it.

Trommelwirbel: Thrummed Mittens! Nachdem ich im vergangenen (harten) Winter vergeblich auf der Suche nach Lammfell gefütterten Fausthandschuhen war, scheint das eine echte Alternative zu sein. Außerdem muss ich dafür nicht Spinnen! Nicht, das ich es nicht mögen würde, aber weder besitze ich ein Spinnrad, noch habe ich große Lust meine Handspindel nach mehr als 10 Jahren zu reaktivieren. Und was dann mit dem Garn tun??? So perfekt spinne ich nämlich nicht.

Drum roll: Thrummed Mittens! Last (verrrrry cold) winter I looked in vain for mittens lined with lambskin so this seams to be a very handy alternative. And I even don't have to spin for them! Not that I wouldn't enjoy it, but I don't own a spinning wheel and am not very inclined to start with the handspindle again after more than 10 years. And what would I do with the yarn - I'm not a very skilled spinner.

So, wie sie jetzt ist, kann ich die Wolle nicht benutzen. Das Gröbste an Dreck habe ich schon vor Ort entfernt, aber das muss noch mal besser gemacht werden. Das ist offensichtlich, für den Rest habe ich mich versucht zu informieren: Anscheinend sollte ich die Wolle waschen, um das Fett zu entfernen (ist vielleicht auch besser, es sind tatsächlich teilweise Klümpchen) und dann Kardieren (Kämmen). Das wird dann noch mal interessant. Dazu fehlt mir auch das Werkzeug und 40€ zu investieren finde nicht verhältnismäßig. Ich bin auf der suche nach Alternativen und derzeit sind ne Hundebürste zu nehmen oder mir aus Nägeln ein Werkzeug zu basteln die Favoriten. Vorschäge? Gott-sei-Dank ist der Winter noch etwas hin...

But even so I can't use the wool just like it is. The worst of the clutter I left where I collected the wool. But there still is finer stuff in there. So much the obvious, the rest a bit or googling did: It seams I have to wash the fibre, to get out the fat (which is kind of good, because there are actually little lumps of it) and to card it (comb it). This is where it get's interesting again. I don't have any carders and am not up to spending 40€ for this little use. I'm looking for alternatives at the moment and my favorite are a dog brush oder to make a device myself by hammering nails to a bit of wood. Any suggestions? Luckily winter is still some time away...

Wochenrückblick

Hauptsächlich habe ich in den letzten Tagen am Kleid (mehr davon hier, hier & hier) weitergearbeitet. Leider gibt es davon keine aktuellen Bilder, denn der lange ersehnte Regen hat leider für schlechte Fotoverhältnisse gesorgt. Dafür hab ich auch mal wieder ein paar Reihen gestrickt.

Also hier der Stand der Dinge: ich habe die Nähte am blauen Oberteil in Natur knappkantig abgesteppt, was auch gleich für die Versäuberung gesorgt haben dürfte. Beide Oberteile sind jetzt auch am jeweiligen Rockteil und es gibt sogar eine wendbare Tasche!!! Das hat ne Menge Konzentration gekostet. Momentan bin ich dabei den Reißverschluss in das blaue Kleid einzusetzen (erst feststecken, jetzt einheften und dann nähen...)

Dann fehlen "nur noch" die Träger, das Verstürzen beider Kleider an der Oberkante, Festnähen des hellen Kleids an Reißverschluss und Tasche und natürlich zwei Säume.

I chiefly worked on my dress during the last days (more of it here, here & here). Unfortunately there are no pictures of my progress, because of the long awaitened rain. It's just too dark. On the up-side I managed to knit a few rows.

So here is what I did: I topstitched the seams of the blue bodice with thread in a light colour. This should also work as a finish of those seams. Both bodices are attached to their skirts and there really is a reversible pocket! This did take quite a lot of thinking! At the moment I'm working on setting in the zipper. This means I pinned, am basting and will finally sew.

After this I will "just" have to do the straps, join both dresses at the top, attach the linen dress to the zipper and pocket by hand and of cours hem the two skirts.

Self-Stitched September

Ich habe mich endlich entschieden. Gestern Abend habe ich eine Entscheidung getroffen, was den Self Stitched September betrifft:

(Ich werde also im September mindestens 1 selbst gemachtes Kleidungsstück pro Tag tragen.)

Das sollte mir nicht schwer fallen. Nicht, dass ich ne Herausforderung scheuen würde, mein Problem war eher das Gegenteil. Ich habe eine Weile (und schließlich eine Liste) gebraucht, um mir ehrlich einzugestehen, dass ich nicht genug Kleidungsstücke für mich genäht habe, um jeden Tag damit von Kopf bis Fuß bestreiten zu können und ich bestimmt nicht motiviert bin, für Sachen, die völlig ok sind, ein selbst genähtes Äquivalent zu produzieren. Mehr geht schließlich immer ;)

This should be quite manageable. Not that I fear a challenge. My problem lay rather in the opposite. It took me a while (and a list!) to honestly admitting to myself that I didn't had the number of clothes to go head to toe in self-stitched glory each day of September. And that I won't be motivated to sew replacements for my perfectly ok bought clothes just because I could. And nobody says I can't do more than 1 piece. ;)

Tutorial - Hockerbezug

Heute habe ich endlich etwas in Angriff genommen, das ich schon lange vor hatte - den langweiligen Hocker in unserem Bad zu beziehen. Und hier ist, wie's geht:

Today I finally got around doing something that I was wanting to do for a while now - making a cover for our boring stool in the bathroom. And here is how I did it:

vorher/before

Material:
aufbügelbares Volumenvlies/fusible fleece
Stoff/fabric
6mm breites Gummiband/6mm wide elastic
langweiliger IKEA-Hocker/boring IKEA stool

1. Den Deckel auf Volumenvlies legen und drumherum schneiden.
Place the lid on fusible fleece and cut around.

2. Das Vlies auf den Stoff bügeln.
Iron the fleece to the fabric.

3. Den Stoff zuschneiden, ich habe auf allen Seiten einen 4cm breiten Rand stehen lassen.
Cut the fabric, I decided on a border of 4cm.

4. Den Rand zweimal einschlagen und bügeln. Feststecken.
Fold the border twice and iron. Pin.

5. Ungefähr 5mm neben dem Vlies feststeppen, 5cm offen lassen.
Sew around the fleece in a distance of ca 5mm, leave 5cm open.

6. Gummi einziehen, Enden mit Zickzack verbinden, Öffnung zusteppen.
Thread in elastic, join ends with zigzag stitches and close the opening.

Tutorial - Kappnaht

Und hier gleich noch eine schnelle Anleitung, wie ich's gemacht habe:
Here is a quick how-to for the lap-felled seams:

Wichtiges vorweg/Before you start

Nahtzugabe/seam allowance: 1,5cm

Fadenspannung/thread tension: 4 (0 to 9 on my mashine, 0 = niedrigste/lowest)

1. Schritt:

Nahtzugaben auseinander bügeln, damit die Naht schön offen ist, und dann beide zu der Seite, in der die Kappnaht liegen soll.
First press seam allowances open, exactly at the seam line, and then press both to the side you want the lap-felled seam in.

2. Schritt:

Die unten liegende Nahtzugabe um die Hälfte kürzen.
Cut the seam allowance in the middle down to half.

Links äußere Nahtzugabe, rechts innere gekürzte NZ/

outer seam allowance left, shortened inner one right

3. Schritt:

Wieder ans Bügelbrett und die obere, breitere Nahtzugabe um die schmale falten und den Bruch Stück für Stück einbügeln.
Back to the ironing board. Fold the wider seam allowance around the narrow one and press in the folding line.

4. Schritt:

Die umgelegten Nahtzugaben von rechts feststecken und von rechts füßchenbreit absteppen. Die Nadeln vorsichtig entfernen, bevor der Fuß sie erreicht und besonders bei gebogenen Nähten immer mal durch heben des Füßchens der Faltenbildung vorbeugen. Fertig :)
Pin the folded allowances from the right side and topstitch a presser foot witdh from the original seam away (also from the right side). Keep in mind to take out the pins before your presser foot reaches them and, especially with curved seams, higher the presser foot from time to time to eliminate wrinkles.

Kappt die Leinen!

Vorher/Before

Ich habe eine Nacht drüber geschlafen und muss zugeben, die Idee die Nähte des Leinenkleids unversäubert zu lassen, gefiel mir immer weniger. Es sah halt einfach nicht aus. Also nahm ich mir zum Frühstück ein altes Nähbuch zur Hand, um zu sehen, welche Alternativen es vielleicht gäbe. Und ich fand eine Antwort: eine Kappnaht! Heute hauptsächlich von Jeans und anderen sportlichen Kleidungsstücken gewohnt, empfahl das gute Buch diese Naht damals für Wäsche (= feiner Stoff + starke Beanspruchung). BINGO! Es sieht gleich um längen besser aus.

I slept over it and changed my mind: I just didn't like the sight of the unfinished seam allowance shimmering through. It looked worse each time I saw the pieces. So I took an old sewing book with me to the breakfast table and thumbed through the pages looking for alternatives. And there was an answer to my problems: a lap-felled seam! Today commonly seen on jeans and other sporty gear, this good book recommended them for linen/underwear (= fine fabric + heavy wear). BINGO! It's looking so much better now.

Nachher/After

Für den dunkelblauen Teil des Kleids bin ich der Meinung, dass ich die Nahtzugaben zu einer Seite bügeln werde und dann knappkantig mit naturfarbenen Garn absteppe. Diese Steppung werde ich auch benutzen, um die Falten im Rock 10cm, weit zuzusteppen. Das dunkelblaue Rockteil wird etwas kürzer als das helle, dann macht die Farbe auch Sinn und es sieht vielleicht sogar etwas maritim aus. :)

The dark blue part of the dress will have it's allowances pressed to the side and do a narrow topstitch in a natural colour like I will do with the pleats of the skirt for 10 cm. I plan to make the blue skirt shorter than the linen one so the topstitching colour will make sense and with a little luck it might look nautical. :)

Wochenrückblick

Nach der ersten Anprobe des Nesselteils, das gar nicht so übel war, habe ich gestern noch kurz vor Ladenschluss einen Abstecher zum Karstadt gemacht. Der Stoff ist einfach zu transparent, um nicht gefüttert zu werden und weiß schluckt das Muster. Batist in einer dunklen Farbe (bevorzugt dunkelblau - Vorschlag meines Mitbewohners) musste her und ein Reißverschluss. Gedacht getan. Leider gab es nur weißen Batist, deshalb ist der Futterstoff jetzt etwas steifere Baumwolle. Der wurde gestern auch noch schnell gewaschen...

After trying on the not-so-bad-looking muslin yesterday afternoon, I raced to the next fabric shop before it closed for the weekend. The fabric is too sheer not to use a lining and white is sucking up all the details of the fabric pattern. Batiste in a dark colour (great idea of my flatmate!) and a zipper had to be conjured up. Thought - done. Unfortunately there was only white batiste to be had, so I took a stiffer cotton in the right colour, which I also washed it last evening.

Schnittänderungen/pattern adjustments

Heute morgen vorm Frühstück gleich der zweite Versuch in Nessel fürs Oberteil. Ich hatte die Büstennaht abgeflacht und die mittleren Teile mit den oberen Teilen verbunden (das streckt etwas mehr). Das saß schon verdammt gut, noch mal die Büstennaht abgeflacht und dann ging es nach dem Frühstück ans Zuschneiden. Das hat dann gute 2 Stunden gedauert. Nahtlinien übertragen war auch noch mal ne Geduldsprobe (ich will nähen!). Dann endlich Nähen: die Oberteile in Oberstoff und Futter sind zusammengesetzt und gebügelt. Ich werde die Nahtzugaben unversäubert lassen, weil ich Angst habe, dass sie sich sonst durchdrücken. Außerdem spiele ich ganz stark mit dem Gedanken das Kleid so zu nähen, dass ich es von beiden Seiten tragen kann. Zwei Fliegen mit einer Klappe sozusagen.

This morning even before breakfast I did the second muslin for the bodice. I had  flattened the curve of the bust a bit and melted the middle and upper bodice parts to make it appear longer. This was working quite well so after flattening the curve even a bit more I started cutting. This was a work of two houres and copying the lines were a bit trying on my nerves as well (I want to sew!) Then finally I started sewing. The outer and inner bodices are both assembled and ironed. I won't finish the seam allowances as I fear they will press through. And, ahem, I am toying with the idea of making this dress reversible. Two in one...

Kurzes Update zur Strickjacke: ich bin mit den Zunahmen für den Brustumfang fertig und habe gestern die "Abnäher" gestrickt. Meine ersten! Es ging wesentlich einfacher als gedacht, es sind halt doch nur verkürzte Reihen...

Short update on my green cardigan: I finished increasing for the bust and did the "darts" yesterday. My first time! They went so smooth, as they are just short rows, but what an effect!

Wir haben einen Gewinner

Als erstes wird der Leinenstoff zu einem Kleid verarbeitet. Und zwar zu dieser schicken burda-Version:
The fabric that is the first to be picked is the linen. It's going to be this dress:

burda 05/2007  Modell 124 (Gibt es auch als Einzelschnitt. Wenn ich mich nicht irre 7829). Denn die Temperaturen hier werden wohl auch noch die nächsten Wochen in unglaublichen Höhen bleiben. 30°C fühlen sich allmählich kühl an!

It's burda 07/2007 number 124 (It is also sold as a seperate pattern. If I am not totally wrong it's the same as 7829). The weather gave the final push in this direction as it's not going to cool down here much. 30°C actually start feeling fresh and cooling!

Der Schnitt ist kopiert und ich habe eine FBA gemacht. Die wird bei dem Büstenteil aber bestimmt nicht reichen. Deshalb kommt als nächstes ein Nesselmodell zur Probe... Auch um zu sehen, ob ich diese Art Schnitt wirklich tragen kann.

I already copied the pattern pieces and made an FBA. I fear that this will not be the end because of the very fitted bust of this dress. So a muslin of the bodice is up next. Also to see if I can really pull of this style. 

Wochenrückblick

Meine Nähmaschine ist immer noch nicht wieder da. Und obwohl das eigentlich "nur" bedeutet, dass kein ZickZack mehr möglich ist, denn ich habe ja immer noch meine Ovi und die Geradstichmaschine meiner Oma, bin ich in einer Art Nähblockade.
My sewing mashine is still in the workshop. And though this really only means that I am without ZigZagStitches, because I still have my overlock and my grannys straightstitch mashine, I am in a kind of sewers block.

Denn die große Frage, die mich grad umtreibt, ist folgende: wie geht's weiter? Nähe ich Sommersachen passend zur unglaublichen Hitze hier oder bin ich mal ausnahmsweise gut vorbereitet und überlege, was ich im Herbst brauchen werde und fange an mich darauf vorzubereiten. Immerhin spiele ich immer noch mit dem Gedanken beim Self Stitched September mitzumachen und im September nur (oder mindestens täglich ein) selbstgenähtes Kleidungsstück zu tragen. Da wäre etwas Planung hilfreich. Und während ich so tippe ist mir schon fast klar, dass die Motivation eher in Richtung Sommer geht...nur dass ich auch hier nicht so wirklich einen Plan habe im Moment.

Aber offenbar bin ich da nicht die einzige, Susannah von cargo cult craft sprach mir mit Ihrem Artikel, der verschiedene Diskussionen über Körperform, Vintagesilhouetten und Stil aufgriff aus der Seele. Also was kommt als nächstes in meine Sommergarderobe?

Ein Kleid - basierend auf dem gleichen Schnitt, wie das schwarze, diesmal mit Knopfleiste aus rotem Viskose mit weißen Punkten,
die Leinenhose, sie muss eigentlich nur neu zusammengefügt werden,
ein Rock oder Kleid aus teilweise transparent gemustertem Leinen,
ein schwarzes Oberteil aus dem letzten Rest schwarzem Leinen/Viskose,
ein Oberteil aus dem dunkelblauen Baumwollbatist mit roten Punkten, mit dem ich eigentlich meine Jacke füttern wollte?

Und das sind nur die Sachen, die ich aus meinem Vorrat nähen könnte. Oh my!

The big question at the moment is: what comes next? Will I sew some summery clothes that go along with the unbelievable heat out there or am I a good girl once in a while an plan my autumn wardrobe and start sewing for this on time. I still plan to take part in Self Stitched September and wear at least one self stitched item per day. So planning would be helpful. And while I'm typing I get the feeling my motivation turns very definitely to summer...only I don't have a plan what I need here, too.

But it seems that I am not the only one. Susannah of cargo cult craft wonderfully summend up different discussions on body image, vintage silhouettes and style and spoke right to my heart. So what is the next addition to my summer wardrobe?


A dress - based on the same pattern as the black one this time with button-up front, in red rayon with white polka dots,
the linen trousers, they just have to be reassembled basically,
a skirt or dress made with partly transparent patterned linen,
a black top made of the last remains of the black linen/rayon,
a top made of the navy cotton batiste with tiny red dots, that should originally line a plannes jacket?


And this is only what I could make from my stash. Oh my!

Tutorial - Französische Naht

Ich habe es nicht wirklich vergessen, die Zeit ist nur so schnell vergangen! ;) Hier also endlich mein Tutorial zu den Fanzösischen Nähten an meiner blauen Bluse. Das Material ist ein gekreppter Poly-Chiffon.

I didn't forget, really, time was just flying! ;) Here comes finally my tutorial on french seams which I used on my blue blouse. The material is polyester crepe chiffon.

Wichtiges vorweg/Before you start

Nahtzugabe/seam allowance: 1,5cm
Oberfadenspannung/upper thread tension: 1 (0 to 9 on my mashine, 0 = niedrigste/lowest)
bitte testen, die Naht soll nicht beulen oder raffen
please test, seam should not bicker or ruffle

1. Schritt:

Teile links auf links übereinander legen und fest stecken.
Place pieces, left sides facing each other, and pin.

2. Schritt:

Die erste Naht ca 5-6mm (Füßchen breit) vom Rand entfernt steppen. Nahtzugabe zurückschneiden.
Sew first seam ca 5-6mm (presser foot wide) away from the edge. Cut back seam allowances.

3. Schritt:

Wenden (ggf. Nahtzugaben auseinander bügeln) und feststecken. Rechte Seiten liegen jetzt innen.
Turn (iron out the seam and seam allowances if possible) and pin. Right sides facing each other.

4. Schritt:

Die eigentliche Naht ca. 10-9mm neben der 1. Naht steppen. (=insgesamt 15mm Nahtzugabe) Die erste Nahtzugabe (5mm) sollte jetzt innerhalb der beiden Nähte liegen und mit ihren fransenden Kanten nicht mehr zu sehen sein.
Sew the "real" seam 10-9mm next to the first seam. ( = a total of 15mm seam allowances) The first seam allowance (5mm) with it's raw edges should be hidden between both seams.

Fertig/Finished

Das Grüne Monster

Weil ich mir in den Kopf gesetzt hatte, dass die grüne Strickjacke mein Urlaubsprojekt sein sollte, musste ich mich endlich entscheiden. Nachdem ich im Casting das Probeknäuel 2x komplett mit verschiedenen Zöpfen und Ranken strapaziert hatte, wurde das auch langsam mal Zeit. Die Wahl für den schmalen Zopf fiel auf einen 2teiligen aus 6 rechten Maschen und die "breite Ranke" wird von einem 3teiligen Zopf (je 5 Maschen) dargestellt. Des weiteren ein 2rechts/2links Bündchen und eine Konstruktion von unten nach oben in einem Stück. Ob Reißverschluss oder nicht, weiß ich immer noch nicht genau, also werde ich die Blenden später anstricken je nachdem ob RV oder Knöpfe...

As I was convinced that the green cardigan was destined to be my holiday knitting project, I finally had to make a decision. After I knitted through my test ball twice allready in the process of making up my mind it was high time. And the winners are: a 2part 6 stitch cable as slim cable and the "broad twine" is going to be interpreted by a 3part cable (each 5 stitches wide). We also have a 2 by 2 rib and the body is going to be constructed seamless. I still haven't decided if i want to close it with a zip or buttons so I will knit the bands last.

There and back again

Ich bin wieder zurück und auch fast wieder ganz angekommen. Der Urlaub war wundervoll, und ich muss mich noch durch eine ganze Menge Bilder wühlen.

Als Souvenir hatte ich eine nette Erkältung im Gepäck (eigentlich nicht verwunderlich nach 2 Wochen schottischen Wetters, wenn es nicht super gewesen wäre) als ich am Freitag Abend in der Hitze landete. Als wären über 30°C und eine Erkältung nicht genug mir jeglichen Elan zu nehmen, ist meine treue Nähmaschine noch immer in Reparatur...

Aber genug gejammert... ich habe den heutigen Tag damit vertrieben, mein blaues Kleid um gute 20cm zu kürzen. Ich konnte mich nicht dazu bringen, den Stoff abzuschneiden, deshalb habe ich mit der Hand gesäumt. Das hat zwar gute 2 Stunden gedauert, dafür ging es auf dem Balkon. Zumindest solange es noch nicht zu heiß war. Ich finde, es ist ganz schick geworden, oder? Auf jeden Fall sehr viel sommerlicher.

I'm back and almost settled in. The holiday was just great. I still have to sort through the pictures, though.

I arrived back on friday evening having a fine cold (perhaps no wonder after two weeks of scottish weather, if it hadn't been really nice) finding myself inmidst a blazing heat wave (we topped 30°C)! And if this wasn't enough to knock me out of stride, my sewing mashine is still away waiting to be repaired...

But enough whining... I spent today shortening my blue polka dot dress a good 20 cm. I did it by hand as I couldn't bring myself do cut the fabric. It took my around 2 houres. First on my balcony and later inside when the heat and sunshine became to much for me. What do you think? Nice isn't it? And definitely more like summer.
